Snapshotter 1.0 goes live

A new experiment based on an application which I created for the London Flash Platform User Group.

Snapshotter will capture a flv snapshot from your local webcam, send it to FMS, invoke a CFC via Remoting which in turn invokes ffmpeg which converts the flv to jpg format. The file is then written to an XML file and a gallery created which in turn is loaded in the swf. Sounds more complex than it is.

I am going to post the sources (fla, cfc) for the conversion process in the next few days.

What's funny is at least 2 of us (I'm one of them) accidentally had VHScrCap as our default webcam when taking the first shot, hehe! You can see the 2 screen-screen caps.

Really cool Stefan. Nice user interaction. Loved your note about kn*b images. ;-) You've had loads of hits already - if only i had a webcam at work. ;-)

image quality... good question. I think ffmpeg may have a parameter for the jpg quality but I'm not sure how great the initial flv snapshot is...

Really nice work.
I have been experimenting with an image upload tool that I wanted to combine with a cam "photo booth" type app and this wold be perfect. It's for online students for University courss. I hope we get the chance to se the code and learn from this.

Nice work bro. Next you need to check out photo booth on a new mac....then look at grant skinners webcam goo scripts and shebang ....hours of fun :o)

Not much to say other than awesome in its simplicity, and offers a neat inverted window into ppls worlds. I particularly enjoyed the instant update, regardless of which machine the webcam is on (was at play with the co-workers on it). Great scott it's great stuff!

I'm simply curious if your experiment will allow the uploading of jpg into the whiteboard without much modification of what exists right now.

will it allow it? Depends what you mean by that. Yes it will allow it. does it do it right now? No, you'd have to build it. But yes, it's possible. Will I add that functionality? Probably not.

Thanks, have found this info only now, anyway it's cool! Some time ago I downloaded similar app from rapidshare (by means of http://rapid4me.com SE), but it somehow doesn't work. Perhaps, I'd better look for something licensed... Or use the one suggested by you.
